God Loves You

You never need to doubt whether God loves you.

The Christmas story is a grand declaration of God’s love for you. The most famous verse of the Bible tells us why God sent Jesus, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” (John 3:16).

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that God loves you personally—specifically you, the one reading this. It can be easy to think God loves the world in general or maybe saints like Billy Graham or Mother Teresa. But me? You? Each of us? With all our faults and sins and doubts and worries and struggles? The Christmas story tells us the answer to that question is a resounding YES!

The apostle Paul, who referred to himself as “the worst of sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15) also understood the personal nature of God’s love for him specifically. He said that Jesus “loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

God loves you. Don’t overcomplicate it. As you grow in your faith, don’t ever get too sophisticated in your theology that you lose sight of this reality. Don’t ever let your doubts or the simplicity of this truth hinder you from relishing each day in the lavish and extravagant love God has for you in Christ.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

1 John 3:1
Prayer

Father, thank you for loving me. When I’m tempted to doubt or make my faith too complicated, remind me of the simple truth that you love me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
