Jesus understood why He came. “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me” (John 6:38). He came to do God’s will. His whole life was marked by that purpose.
As a young boy, when His parents searched for Him, Jesus said, “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49). During His ministry, He told His disciples, “I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me” (John 5:30 ESV). Before the cross, He prayed to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, “not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
Because Jesus accomplished God’s will, we have the hope of eternal life. “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:40).
